EDITOR'S SPECIAL NOTE
Some of you may have noticed that the bulletins have been being published from Murfreesboro, TN. I am doing this remotely and it is not easy. I am here in TN because my daughter gave birth to my FIRST GRANDCHILD - Lliam Tyler Jones (9 lbs 6 oz. 21 3/4 in. - on September 27th). I am now a GRANDPA... It will seem that I will be making many trips to TN now....

HK0NA MALPELO ISLAND 2012 DXPEDITION PRESS RELEASE (Dated Sept. 30th)

"The Malpelo 2012 DXpedition is pleased to announce that the HK0NA operating team has added two new operators, both physicians..W0GJ and K9SG. The team now consists of 18 operators representing eight countries.

Two members of the team will travel to Malpelo for a reconnaissance visit in late October. The purpose is to check out possible operating sites and make final decisions on the type and placement of antennas. We want to try to have antennas oriented for all parts of the DX world. Also, some equipment will be moved onto the island and stored until our DXpedition begins in late January 2012.

Every effort is being made to extend the length of time available for operating. This requires coordination with the authorities and agencies that oversee the island and the charter boat company. It appears that we can get to the island one day earlier and may have the option of staying a few extra days. Of course, our costs will rise accordingly. The current plan has the team QRV on or about January 23rd for 12-14 days.

Operations are planned on 160 through 6 meters on CW, SSB and one Digital mode.

Several of the Elecraft K3s are already in Colombia. The other K3s, five KPA500 amplifiers, antennas from DX Engineering, and Spiderbeam 65 foot masts for the low band antennas will be shipped soon. The Alpha 8410s are on their way.

The Malpelo team is paying all their transportation expenses to/from Colombia and putting up about one-half of all the DXpedition costs. To cover the remainder of our expenses, your financial assistance is kindly requested. Contributions are being sought from DX Foundations, DX Clubs and individual DXers. You may contribute directly to DXARC (Colombia) or to K4UEE (North America), DJ9ZB (Europe), or JA1ELY (Asia/JA). See our website: www.hk0na.com for further information on how you can help. N2OO and the SJDXA have graciously agreed to handle QSL duties.

We plan periodic press releases with information of interest. Also, watch the website for breaking news.

Thanks, , Jorge Prieto, HK1R, DXpedition leader
Bob Allphin, K4UEE-co-leader
Gregg Marco, W6IZT-co-leader"

OJ0X SEPTEMBER 1 REPORT (Press Release by OH2BH)

There is no doubt autumn is approaching the North and the weather is becoming rather unstable. The second group - OH1TV, OH2BAD, OH2BO, OH5BM - has ex- perienced the full variety while radio propagation hit the rock bottom. It is not often that Northern Lights are visible on the latitude of Market Reef - now the Aurora Borealis was seen on the last day of the German group but also the current second week's Finnish group. There were predictions of a recovery of band conditions for this weekend but no signs of it yet.

Worse is expected again on the horizon, and the forecast for next Tuesday is high winds. Hence the group for the third week will need to travel to Aland Islands early to be stand-by for a potential advanced outing.

If you are still in need of some band points, you may watch the weather reports at

http://www.g3txf.com/dxtrip/OJ0X/OJ0X.html
direct from the Market Reef automatic weather station. There the Titanex 160/80M vertical may be taken down today as preparation for early departure as well as for poor propagation on the low bands.

But the spirits remain high among the group as they have passed 30,000 QSO and eagerly wait for 10M to open up. Nevertheless, the third week's group - OH1ND, OH2BH, SM0W and SM6U - may take advantage of any 10 & 12M openings to all regions of the world.

OJ0X also experienced some curious magic as UPS delivered a new RF choke for their burned Alpha 91B amplifier. Thanks to quick action from Acom Bulgaria, the choke arrived in Finland the following day. Unfortunately, UPS’s one-day service anywhere in Europe did not extend to Market Reef. Hopefully the next group will be able to bring the third amplifier back on line.

Are you guys in the audience having any fun yet? With 60,000 hits at (QRZ.com), some of you are still there. The band slot race is still there with ON7GB and LZ1NG leading Europe with 20 points while Asia's JA4DND is close behind (19). The US East Coast is suffering from poor propagation with K5EK running far behind at 14 points. Just enjoy the log search facility operated by Nigel, G3TXF

www.clublog.org/charts/?c=OJ0X
but save any queries until the operation is finished."
PJ2, CURACAO
Andy, DK5ON, will be active as PJ2/DK5ON from Curacao (SA-099) between March 12-30th (2012). Activity will be on 40-6 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK. QSL via his home callsign.

PJ4, BONAIRE
Wim, ON4CIT, will be active as PJ4J from Bonaire (SA-006) between October 27th and November 9th. Activity will focus on RTTY and SSB. QSL via his home callsign.

PLANNING DXPEDITION AROUND THAILAND?
Charles, HS0ZCW, states,

"If you are planning a DXpedition to places that could include Bangkok as a staging point, I can definitely recommend using Bangkok as the place. Advantages include new airport with connections everywhere, good and cheap hotels, cheap food and transportation locally, interesting place for short tour, and best of all, a 5 square block area packed with electronic parts. In the Bangkok Bon Mhor district downtown are hundreds of shops selling coax and coax plugs, any electronic part and ICs, and is very complete. Not sold are yagis below 10 meters. Recommend shipping your radios on to final destination but any Yaesu radio can be sold over the counter for export but must order first for Bangkok pick up. I will be happy to give advice."
