13 COLONIES (Special Event). Once again the annual (the 11th) "13 Colonies
Special Event" will take place between 1300z, July 1st and 0400z July 8th.
The certificate is printed on heavy card stock. Stations working one state
or, as many as all 16, will be eligible for the certificate. A "Clean Sweep"
indicator will be affixed for those lucky enough to "Q" all 16. A special
endorsement will be attached for stations contacting their sister oper-
ation, WM3PEN, in Philadelphia, PA, where independence was declared. New
since 2015, the 13 Colonies have added a second sister event station.
GB13COL will operate from Durham, England. The 13 Colonies certificate
will have a Liberty Bell added for a contact with WM3PEN. For 2019, K2Z
will be operating as a "Event Managers" bonus station for the 13 Colonies
Special Event in July! They will also offer a special QSL card printed
just for this event. There should be at least two stations from each on
the 13 colonies on the air, as well as Super contest stations, multi-
operator Club stations and OM and XYL teams. The U.S. original 13 colonies
are CT-DE-GA-MA-MD-NC-NH-NJ-NY-PA-RI-SC-VA. The special events stations
mentioned are: K2A (NY), K2B (VA), K2C (RI), K2D (CT), K2E (DE), K2F (MD),
K2G (GA), K2H (MA), K2I (NJ), K2J (NC), K2K (NH), K2L (SC), and K2M (PA).
All HF bands will be in play, including the WARC bands, with the exception
of 60 meters. 2 meters and 6 meter simplex are encouraged. All modes of
operation should be represented - SSB, CW, RTTY, Digital, and the Satel-
lites. The mode of operation is up to the individual colony state station.

5TH ANNUAL RST SPECIAL EVENT. Members of the North Country DX Association
(NCDXA club K7ICE) will be on HF celebrating their 5th Annual “Worked All
RST” special event starting Jan. 1, 2020, running through February 28th.
Phone, CW and all the Digital modes will be covered from northern North
America promoting Amateur Radio! Full color QSLs and free certificates
are available. QSL manager is K7ICE (please see QSL instructions for K7ICE
at QRZ.com). Alaska KL7RST operators are: Donn/KL7DG (Kotlik school),
Corliss/AL1G (Anchorage), Ron/KL7YK (Anchorage), Tim/NL8F (Dutch Harbor)

students from Kotlik school (KL7RST) will be gaining air time while ob-
taining their Amateur Radio permits. Operators Pierre and Alex coming on
from 80N, Eureka on Ellesmere Island (VY0RST), and Tim (KL7RST) operating
from the 2nd rock out on the end of Alaska’s Aleutian Chain. For more

9J2, ZAMBIA (Update). Members of the Z2LA and 7P8LB team are planning a
trip to Zambia between March 5-15th (2020). A preliminary departure date
is 4th of March 2020. The license application form has been received and
will shortly be forwarded with requests for the 9J2LA callsign. The Web

Facebook will be used for “Breaking News” the weeks before departure and
during the Expedition. Updated list of operators are Rune/LA7THA (team
leader), Harald/LB2HG, Svein/LA3BO, Morten/LA3MHA, Piotr/LA7RRA, Arne/

9J2LA TEAM plans to use FT8 as the primary data mode. They will use FT8
DXpedition mode, operating as the Fox. If you hear them on the normal FT8
frequencies, they will not be using DXpedition mode and only work one station
at the time. If the number of callers is high, they will announce a QSY to
their DXpedition frequencies.

AFRICAN TOUR (Press Release #2) [edited]. Pista, HA5AO, reports that he
will arrive in Kingdom of eSwatini (Swaziland) on September 15th, and plans
to stay until October 1st. His license for the 3DA0AO callsign was issued
last year. The flight and room at Mountain Inn Resort at Mbabane is booked.
His plan to start to set up antenna and station on the 16th and can be
expected on the air by the evening. The station set up contains the Ele-
craft K3S with a KPA500 and fed into a vertical antenna. Pista will operate
on the 80-10m bands using mainly CW and FT8 on the higher bands. Pista
plans to be active on September 21 and 22nd in the All Africa DX Contest
as a Single-Op/Single-Transmitter/CW-Mode/All-Band/High-Power entry.
After the eSwatini operation Pista, HA5AO, will arrive in Lesotho on
the 1st of October and plans to stay until October 19th. He will use again
the 7P8AO callsign. Flight and room at Molengoane Lodge is also booked.
Due to other commitments the operation from Lesotho will take place during
his free time mainly on CW and FT8 on the higher bands.

AO50, SPAIN (Special Event). Members of the Asociacion de Radioaficionados
de Padron (ASORAPA) will be active as AO50MOON to celebrate the 50th
anniversary of APOLLO XI moon landing during the month of July. QSL via
EA1RCI, direct or by the Bureau.
CB1/CB2, CHILE (Special Event). Members of the Chilean YL Radioamateur
Group will be active with the following special callsigns during the week
of July 1-7th, due to the Solar Eclipse in the northern zone of Chile
around July 2nd. Activity will be on all HF bands. QSL via CA2MEM. The
special callsigns, locations and operators are as follows:

E4, PALESTINE (Reminder). Janusz, SP9FIH, will once again (for the 4th
time) be active as E44WE from Bethlehem (KM71OQ) between July 6th and
August 6th. Activity this time will be on 80/30/20/6 meters using SSB,
some RTTY and possibly FT8 (F/H). QSL via his home callsign or ClubLog's

EP, IRAN. Ali, EP3CQ/6O1OO, informs OPDX of the following: The Communi-
cations Regulatory Authority and Parsian Amateur Radio Club are opening
DXpedition opportunities in historical sites on Iran. The first location
that is being announced and available now is Shapour Citadel in Chaharmahal
and Bakhtiari Province. They are looking for a good start and then spread
the same to other very famous sites in the country i.e. Persepolis of
Shiraz, Yazd, etc. I suppose this is a very rare and great opportunity
to have a DXpedition in Iran. Weather condition is very good now, visa
upon arrival for three month and super cheap in terms of expenses i.e.
flights around 20-50$ etc. indeed it is a unique experience and opportunity.
All interested DXpedition teams can send their request(s) for 3 to 30Mhz
(standard HF bands). No limitation on mode of operation. Requests should
be submitted 3-4 month to (ep3ag@yahoo.com) prior to the actual operation,
for coordination and obtaining the relevant license(s).
FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. Rick, AI5P, will be active as FO/AI5P from French
Polynesia between July 22-29th. Activity will be on 40-17 meters using
CW and FT8. QSL via AI5P, direct or by the Bureau. No LoTW, eQSL or
ClubLog.
H4, SOLOMON ISLANDS. Operators Michael/DL2GMI and Bernard/DL2GAC will
be active from Malaita Island (OC-047, WW Loc. RI01), but at different
times. Michael, DL2GMI, will be active between August 23rd and September
2nd. His callsign is pending. Bernard, DL2GAC, will be active again as
H44MS between July 7th and September 20th, possibly longer. Activity will
be on 80/40/20/15/10/6 meters using SSB, FT8 and possibly some RTTY. Once
Michael receives his callsign, QSL via DL2GMI, by the DARC Bureau, direct,
LoTW or eQSL. QSL H44MS via DL2GAC, direct, by the Bureau, ClubLog and
eventually on LoTW.
IOTA NEWS..............
AS-206. (NEW IOTA) Shigeru, JI3CEY, will be active as JI3CEY/0 from
Sado Island between July 20-22nd. Activity will be holiday
style on various HF bands using CW and SSB. QSL via his home
callsign.
EU-068. Operators Bastien/F4EYQ and Fabien/F4GYM, members of the F6KOP
Radio Club de Provins, will be active as F4EYQ/P and F4GYM/P
from Sein Island between July 26-29th. They plan to participate
in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 27-28th) with the callsign TM5S.
This callsign was used 20 years ago by the F6KOP club. QSL via
F5MFV.
EU-091. Operators Michele/IK7FPX, Gilberto/IK7LMX, Gianni/I7PHH,
Cesare/IK7XNF, Giancarlo/IK7QMJ, Ivo/9A3A and possibly others
will be active as II7P from Pedagne Island during the RSGB
IOTA Contest (July 27-28th) as a Multi-Op/Mixed-Mode/Assisted/
24-HRs/Low-Power entry. QSL via IK7LMX, by the Bureau or direct.
EU-119. (Update) Operators Oleg/UA1PBA, Yuri/UA1OC, Alex/UA1OJL and
Alexei/RN1ON will be active as RI1OM from Morzhovets Island
(RRA:RR-02-08, RLHA:RLE-031, ARLHS:ERU-051, WLOTA: L-1070,
RDA:AR-21) between July 1-5th. On the way to/from Morzhovets
Island, the team will be active as RK1O/mm. Activity will be
on 40-10 meters using CW, SSB and FT8. QSL via RN1ON, direct,
by the Bureau or ClubLog's OQRS.
EU-120. Members of the Addiscombe Amateur Radio Club will once again
be active as G4ALE/P from the Isle of Wight during the RSGB IOTA
Contest (July 27-28th) as a Multi-1/DXpedition/Low-Power entry.
Operators mentioned are Quin/G3WRR, Mike/G3VYI, Steve/G4SDM,
Iain/G4SGX, Alun/G4WGE and Dave/G7RAU. They will be using wire
antennas. QSL via G3VYI.
NA-090. Members of the Radioaficionados Yucatecos will be active as
XF3LL from the Celarain Lighthouse in Faro Celarain Punta
Sunta, National Park Cozumel, on Cozumel Island (ILLW MX 0011,
XEFF 0004), between August 17-18th, and during the Inter-
national Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend. Activity will be on
40-10 meters using SSB, the Digital modes and Satellites.

NA-128. Operators Mike/VE2OV and Joe/VE2CY will be active as VE2OV/P
and VE2CY/P, respectively, from "Isle-aux-Coudres" (Hazelnut
Island) during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 27-28th) as a
Multi-Op entry. QSL via their home callsigns.
OC-142. Operators Andrew/VK4NM and Peter/VK4PR will once again be
active as VK4NM/p from Fraser Island (VKFF- 216) this time
during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 27-28th) as a Multi-1/
Low Power (Solar Power) entry. Activity will be on 80-10
meters. QSL via M0OXO.
SA-100. (Update) The current list of operators of CA1DBD, CA1FCS,
CE1DN, CE3WW, HA1AG, I2YDX, IT9YRE, K9AJ, XQ1CR and XQ1FM,
will be active as 3G1DX from Pajaros Rocks for 3 days sometime
around October 18-23rd (plan is October 18-20th). This will
depend on the swells around the island. They plan to work
hard during the day hours, but they are not sure during the
evening hours due to the high tides. Activity will be mainly
SSB and CW, using two stations. QSL via XQ4CW.

NORTHERN EUROPEAN RARE IOTA NUMBERS EU-126 AND EU-192 (Press Release,
dated June 28th, edited) [July 24 thru July 29, 2019]. The Radio Arcala,
OH8X group of Juha/OH8NC, Martti/OH2BH, Jaakko/OH1MA, Ville/OH2MM, Niko/

SV/A, MOUNT ATHOS (Update to OPDX.1420). Last week OPDX was contacted by
Kostas Stamatis, SV1DPI, and he updated/corrected details about Monk
Iakovos, SV2RSG. According to Kostas, Monk Iakovos does not have a license
from the Holy Council to operate, so his QSOs are "NOT" good for DXCC.
He states [edited], "Of course he can apply and get a license, as the
Holy Council used to give a license to monks. The bigger problem seems
to be that the last years (Monk Iakovos) lived in a monastery outside
Mount Athos, near Serres in North Greece..... What Monk Apollo used to
say to me is that Mount Athos wants to be on the air, so if there is not
a new operator soon, there is more hope for a DXpedition."
T30, WESTERN KIRIBATI. Alex, 5B4ALX, will be active as T30ET from Tarawa
Atoll (OC-017) between March 18th and April 2nd (2020). Activity will be
on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB, FT8 and RTTY. QSL via ClubLog's OQRS or

T33, BANABA ISLAND. The following was posted on QRZ.com [edited]: "The
Rebel DX Group is a 'DX light' Band of Brothers with no foundation or
large club support. We rely on our personal funds, Rebel Members, and
your potential donations. Any donations received from ClubLog's OQRS
system will be used to purchase fuel for our 2nd attempt at Bouvet 3Y0I
this November, 2019. Expected fuel costs will be over $100,000.00 USDs,
again."
The suggested band plan for the T33T Banaba Island DXpedition is as
follows:
CW - 1822, 3502, 7002, 10106, 14002, 18072, 21002, 24892 and 28002 kHz
SSB - 3785, 7090, 14190, 18140, 21200, 24940 and 28440 kHz
FT8 - 1840, 3567, 7056, 10131, 14090, 18095, 21091, 24911 and 28091 kHz
6m - 50105/CW and 50140/SSB
We will use F/H mode for all bands on FT8 except 160m!
All QSOs will be confirmed by a 4 page QSL card and LoTW.

TO5, ST. PIERRE AND MIQUELON. Operators Alex/DD5ZZ, Georg/DJ6GI, Martin/
DM4IM and Chris/VO1IDX will be active as TO5M from Ile aux Marins (NA-032)
between August 10-18th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB,
FT8 and possibly RTTY and Satellites. The team will use mostly vertical
antennas, a Hexbeam for the highbands and beverage receiving antennas for
the lowbands. QSL via LoTW and ClubLog. Their Web site is currently under

PLEASE NOTE: The callsign TO5M has been used once before for a Reunion
Island operation (QSL via F6CXJ).
VK9L, LORD HOWE ISLAND. FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. Rick, AI5P, will be active
as VK9APX from Lord Howe Island (OC-004) between August 1-10th. Activity
will be on 40-17 meters using CW and FT8. QSL via AI5P, direct or by the
Bureau. No LoTW, eQSL or ClubLog.
VK9N, NORFOLK ISLAND. Janusz, SP9FIH, will be active as VK9NK from Norfolk
Island (OC-005) between January 12th and April 12th. Activity will be on
160-10 meters using SSB, RTTY and FT8. This operation is a tribute to
Jim Smith, VK9NS. Equipment will be an IC-7200 and Expert 1.3K-FA into
a Spiderbeam and verticals. QSL via SP9FIH or ClubLog's OQRS.
VP6D DUCIE ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS. The VP6D Ducie Island 2018 receives
the German DX Foundation's award for: Best DXpedition 2018

VP8/VP8DXU SOUTH ORKNEY ISLANDS [AN-008] DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release #4,
date June 27th)[edited]. Project planning continues on schedule.
Corporate Sponsors -- A key component of any serious DX-pedition is
the equipment. Joining our corporate sponsor team are:
WiMo -- We are pleased to announce that WiMo Antennen und Elektronik
Gmb, Herxheim, Germany, will sponsor the HF Yagi antennas by providing
a complement of antennas from their EAntenna product line.
Spiderbeam -- Returning as a sponsor is Spiderbeam GmbH, Spremberg,
Germany. As with our previous DX-pedition projects, Spiderbeam will
provide their line of high-quality fiberglass and aluminum telescoping
masts. We are happy to again welcome Spiderbeam to another PDXG project.
Tent Weekend -- Scheduled for July 12–15th, 2019, in Placerville,
California, is our tent assembly project. Over 2,300 pounds (1,050kg) of
WeatherPort extreme weather tents and supporting equipment was shipped
to California from Illinois and Georgia. We appreciate the assistance
from: Don/N1DG, Craig/K9CT, Bob/K4UEE and Rick/N4HU in making these tents
available to our project, and Mark, KJ6EUO, for his assistance in receiving
and storing the shipment in California.
We will unpack, inspect, make any necessary repairs and repack the tents.
To minimize island setup time, we will construct and “kit” the tent bases/
flooring in California.
Band / Mode Addition: We added 80m SSB to the operating plan.
Fundraising -- Our fundraising campaign continues. The next payment to
Braveheart is due in July and our shipping budget of $25,000(USDs) is
tracking close to plan. As of this writing, 30 clubs / Foundations and
236 individuals have shown their support to the project.
We have a long way to go in order to reach the goal of 50% team member
funding of the estimated project cost of $325,000(USD). If you need
South Orkney for an ATNO, or plan to work us, we would appreciate your
help, expenses must be paid before we sail.
Many of the current individual donors have supported our previous DX-
peditions whether they needed the entity or not. We appreciate the con-
fidence they’ve shown in our team, and invite others to sign on.
Ham Radio Events: We enjoyed meeting many DXers at Ham Com Dallas,
Friedrichshafen, Germany, and the Arizona ARRL State Convention, Prescott.
Please look for us at the Pacific Northwest DX Convention, Everett,
Washington, in August.
