As always, you never know - "Work First Worry Later". 3A, MONACO. Members of Association of Radio Amateurs from Monaco (ARM) will be using the special callsign 3A5M to celebrate the 100th anni- versary of the passing of Prince Albert 1st of Monaco (1848-1922). He was a humanist, founder of the Institute of Peace, scientist, founder of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, of the Oceanographic institute, the Institute of Human Paleontology, etc.... Activity will take place between April 1st and May 31st, 2022. Operations will be on various HF bands using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. QSL via the 3A Bureau. 3B8, MAURITIUS (Update). Ray, HB9DNG/F5UKV (ex-9Q5RP), will be moving and be active as 3B8HH from the small village of Pereybčrein, very close to Cap Malheureux in the north part of Mauritius, starting around the January 20th, 2022. He informs OPDX that he will be running up to 100 watts into wires and EndFed antennas. Activity will be on 80-2 meters (possibly 160m) using mainly CW and some SSB. Having his station is completely installed, Ray plans to operate some digital (PSK at the beginning; then RTTY). He also mentions that he might use FM on 10 meters. His operating schedule will be more or less daily; probably starting from 1800 UTC and onward accordingly to propagation conditions. Regarding QSLing, Ray states that he is "from the old school and like 'paper QSL'." At the very beginning, Ray will start with direct QSLing, but very quickly will use the Mauritian MARS (Mauritius Amateur Radio Society) QSL Bureau. Currently, he does not have a QSL Manager. He will upload his log to ClubLog. There will be NO eQSL. More info about the operator and his station is available on QRZ.Com and HAMQth.com. 4C, MEXICO. Zalo, XE3N, plans to be active as 4C10M from Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico, for 10 days on 10 meters between December 10-20th. Activity will be on on SSB and the Digital modes and did include the 2021 ARRL 10 Meter Contest (December 11-12th) this past weekend. QSL via LoTW. 8Q, MALDIVES. Tom, OE1TRI, is planning to be active as 8Q7TR from South Ari Atoll (WW Loc. MJ63ko). Specific dates have not been announced yet. He states that this is neither a DXpedition nor IOTA - just having some fun during my holidays :-). My mobile equipment: Xiegu G90 + Chameleon EMCOMM II for HF and an Anytone AT-D578UV for UHF/VHF." QSL via OE1TRI (Bureau). 9N, NEPAL (Update). Robert, 9N7AA (S53R), posted following update on QRZ.com, dated December 11th [edited]: We have now moved to the new resi- dence and a couple of vertical dipoles were strung from a Spiderbeam pole on the upper terrace of our top floor apartment. I mostly run on 17m as other bands sound rather empty. A new antenna mast was manufactured locally and delivered today and Ultra Beam / WIMO 2 element Yagi (40-6m) is still at the customs. If all stars align, I will be able to install it before the end of the year. 160/80 will have to wait for a while, though. I have an idea how to install quarter-wave slopers, but this will need some negotia- tions with the neighbors, as the wires will go over two adjacent land plots. Kathmandu is veeeeery densely populated. Equipment from my previous operation is still stuck in Kabul and we are trying hard to bring it to Kathmandu. As of very recently a single com- mercial flight is finally available to Dubai, so there is a little tiny light at the end of the tunnel. For those constantly asking - 60m band is not permitted in Nepal. QSL via S57DX, direct only, and of course, LoTW and ClubLog will be updated at least once a week. OQRS will also be enabled soon. PLEASE NOTE that 9N7AA was previously issued to Andy, UA3AA. QSL for Andy's operation in March-April 2014 goes via Andy Gromov, PO Box 873, Brooklyn, NY 11230, USA. A721, QATAR (Special Event). Members of the Qatar Amateur Radio Society (A71A) are currently active as A721FAC during the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup being held in Qatar until December 18th. QSL via the Bureau or direct to the address listed on QRZ.com. D6, COMOROS (Postponed). Members of the F6KOP Radio Club that were planning to activate Comoros Islands (AF-007) sometime between mid-to-end January in 2022 have now postpone their operation due to current Covid situation. They state, "We must sadly announce that due to the actual pandemic situ- ation, travels to Austral Africa are no more allowed. We waited as long as possible and the decision was very difficult to take. It's safer for the team not to travel now. We decided to postpone the DXpedition later in 2022, when all gets again quieter." Look for more details to be forth- coming. A Web page (under construction) is available at: https://comores2022.wordpress.com EI90, IRELAND (Special Event). Members of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society (IRTS) will activate the special callsign EI90IRTS to mark 90th anniversary of the founding of their organization. The IRTS was formed in 1932. The EI90IRTS callsign will be used throughout 2022. QSL via EI6AL. FO/A, AUSTRAL ISLANDS (Update to OPDX.1543). Jacek, SP5EAQ, will be active as FO/SP5EAQ from Rimatara Island (OC-050, WW Loc. BG37oi) between March 2-30th, 2022 (if the pandemic permits). This will be a SSB operation on various HF bands as well as the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 26-27th) signing with the special callsign TX5AQ. QSL via SP7DQR. FT4/X, KERGUELEN ISLAND (Update). As reported last week, Arthur, FT4XW, is totally new to ham radio, and is currently working on the Kerguelen Islands at Port-aux-Francais on a scientific mission as a electronic engineer. He has been there since October, and will be there until Decem- ber 2022. He states that he has a XIEGU G90 and a DX Commander SOTA/POTA vertical antenna. Thierry, F6CUK, the operator who will be going to Crozet Island (FT/W), is currently in touch with Arthur, and states that he is a "legitimate operator" but has been too busy to operate. QSL via F6EXV, either direct (standard procedures) or by the Bureau. LoTW will be uploaded 6 months after end of operation. As of December 12th, there has been NO QSNs reported yet. HD8R GALAPAGOS ISLAND PRESENTATION/TALK (Now On YouTube.com). Steve, W4DTA, hosted another Association of Amateur Radio of Venezuela, Santiago de Leon de Caracas Chapter (YV5ARV), ZOOM presentation. If you missed the live presentation/talk with Toni, EA5RM, on the recent HD8R Galapagos Island operation on December 11th, it is now available on YouTube.com. It is, however, in Spanish but Steve believes YouTube should allow you to set up subtitles. The video is about 1:46 long, and can be viewed on YouTube.com at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xrhN4_dlO4 HZ19, SAUDI ARABIA (Special Event). Members of the Saudi Association of Radio Amateurs (SARA) [HZ1SAR] will use the special event callsign HZ19SAT to celebrate the launch of a Saudi satellite until December 28th. The 19 in the callsign means it has been 19 years since the Saudis launched a "cubesat" satellite. QSL via HZ1SAR. II1, ITALY (Special Event). Members of the Italian Naval Old Rhythmers Club (INORC) [IQ1NM] will be active as II1TCWC until December 17th. Activity is to to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the first trans- oceanic wireless communication made on 12th of December, 1901, by Gug- lielmo Marconi. The wireless transmission took place from Poldhu (Corn- wall, UK) to Saint John's (on the island of Newfoundland, Canada). The transmission of radio waves across the ocean was not - at the time - thought possible due to the earth's curvature; this was the thesis sup- ported by the scientists of that period. But Guglielmo Marconi managed to prove the groundlessness of those theories. Activity will ONLY be on CW on various HF bands. A special award is available (in PDF format); for details see QRZ.com. A special memorial commemorative QSL will be sent via Bureau to all QSOs. IOTA NEWS. TBDXC 2022 DX ULTRA- MARATHON (Press Release, dated December 6th). The following was sent out by Hans, LB6GG [edited]: The True Blue DXers Club is happy to announce the 2022 DX Ultra-Marathon. Introductory video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-Pcca3J56U This initiative was first launched in 2021, with the aim of promoting CW and SSB activity on the HF bands, during contests but also, and perhaps especially, in-between contests. By the end of the first year, we expect that nearly 200 brave DXers will have taken up the challenge, making a total of almost half a million QSOs. The results of the top scorers are nothing short of extraordinary, but it is heartening to see that the Ultra-Marathon was enjoyed by dozens of stations at all levels. Augusto, IK4RQJ, who topped the Low Power SSB category, says "I started out of pure curiosity, and then, slowly, the Marathon almost turned into a drug. Day after day I spent hours on the air, looking for QSOs... I would have never believed to be able to log nearly 12,000 QSOs in a year. The Marathon brought back the feelings I had at the beginning of my ham 'career', 30 years ago." The Ultra-Marathon has something for everybody. You can put in an all-out effort and compete for a top position in one of the many categories. Or, you can compete against yourself - see what you can achieve within the limits of your available time and setup. Most important is that this com- petition brings back the excitement of amateur radio, each and every day. This year-long competition is about contacting as many different stations as possible, on as many bands as possible, in as many DXCC countries and WAZ Zones as possible. Essentially, it is about making QSOs, working DX, being active and enjoying your hobby. The rules and the scoring system (https://www.tbdxc.net/marathon) are practically identical to the CQ World Wide contest. However, this is NOT a "59 001" kind of competition - it is NOT a year-long contest. It is intended to promote everyday activity on CW and SSB: real activity, real contacts, real QSOs between people, as opposed to computers talking to each other. Participating could not be easier. Once you have signed up and chosen your mode and power category, all you have to do is to make QSOs and then upload your log in ADIF format. You can do this as often as you want. Each time, your score is automatically calculated according to the rules, and the leader-board for your chosen category is updated. You will be able to track your progress and, if you are a competitive type, check your score against others in real time. We look forward to seeing you! Please remember that for registration, log upload, leader-boards, rules, Frequently Asked Questions, requests for help, and all things Marathon, the address is: https://tbdxc.hamserver.de/marathon/ 73, Hans Ostnell LB6GG - Marathon Manager ------------------------------------------------------------- TO9, ST.
