3B8, MAURITIUS
There have been several 3B8/S51OI QSNs reported over the
past weekend on 20 meters CW. Watch 14022 kHz between 1030 and 1430z.
The operator's name is Ed, and he states to QSL via his home callsign.
4W, EAST TIMOR
Thor, 4W6MM, has once again been very active on 20 meters
CW. Watch 14002 kHz after 1100z. After 1300z, he will sometimes come up
on SSB on 14195 kHz.
5W, SAMOA
David/K8AA and Ted/K8AQM hope to be active from here between
July 2-12th, possibly as 5W0AA or 5W0DL (K8AA) and 5W0TR (K8AQM). Activity
will be on 40-10 meters, mainly on CW and digital modes with some SSB.

7X, ALGERIA
Mirek, 9V1XE/VK2DXI/SP5IXI, will once again be active as
7X0DX. His activity will begin the first or second week of July. He is
expected to be there longer this time, 3-4 weeks. He will be active in
his spare time on HF and via AO40. This time he will not take antennas
for UO14, so there will be no activity on this satellite. During his last
activities, Mirek was active from the locator IM81. This time, he will
also activate IM93. On HF, he will be on CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. Look

AN INTERVIEW WITH P5/4L4FN
Radio Austria International's "Intermedia"
weekly communications magazine will broadcast an extensive interview with
Ed, P5/4L4FN, in North Korea [his personal, ham, and professional
background; how he succeeded to operate from P5; current situation and
future plans...] in issue #275 Friday 5 July (UTC) 17:04, 18:30 Saturday

CY9, ST. PAUL ISLAND
CY9DH is now active until July 9th. Operators are
Duane/WV2B, William/VE1AAO, James/VE9DH, Ed/W0SD, Arliss/W7XU, Holly/
N0QJM and Edith/W0OE. One of the operators was heard saying NO RTTY this
trip. Over the past weekend, they were heard on 20/17/15/12/10/6 meters.

DXCC NEWS
Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Manager, reports that
the following are approved for DXCC credit from Tunisia: 3V8SF, 3V8SM,
3V8SQ, 3V8ST and 3V8SJ.
EP, IRAN
Stig, EP3UN, seems to be active regularly on 30 and 17 meters
CW. Look for him between 1530 and 1900z on or around 18077 kHz. From
1900z and later, watch around 10103 kHz. He has also been spotted on
40 and 20 meters. Watch 14195 kHz after 1500z and 7009 kHz after 1900
or later after 2300z. QSL via LA7JO.
FS, ST. MARTIN
Jimmy, W6JKV, is currently active from here as FS/W6JKV
until July 7th. Activity will be mainly on 6 meters. From his QTH, he
will be using a yagi with a 40 foot boom. He will have a beacon on 50.103
unless he announces otherwise.
GETTING STARTED ON RTTY
Over the past week, Don, AA5AU, has offered his
assistance to anyone interested in getting started on RTTY to work the
P5 operation. He states that he was surprised at the interest he generated
and has helped several individuals privately to operate RTTY. Instead of
trying to tutor all these operators individually, Don has decided to create
pages on his web site with step-by-step instructions on how to download,
install and use the MMTTY program. His project is almost complete and is
expected to be done by this past weekend. The URL is:
IOTA NEWS
AF-042. A group of URE (Malaga, Spain) hams have organized a trip to
Alboran Island. The days of operation are July 19-23rd. The team
consists of: EA7RU, EA7AIN, EA7VK, EA7HZ and EB7HAF. Operation
will be on 10, 15 and 20 meter SSB, CW, VHF. The callsign is
unknown at this time. QSL via EA7RU (Callbook address). Since
their transportation will be by a fishing ship, the date can
be modified around those days. More information can be found

AS-080. Han/DS2GOO, Son/DS3HWS and Chae/DS5BSX plan to be active from Anmyon Island between July 5-7th. They will sign as homecall/3 on 40,15,12 and 10 meters SSB. They expect to use 100w during their activity. The team has various antennas which include a 3 element 15m beam. QSL via homecall. EU-016. 9A8RR will be active from the Korcula Island (CI-041) during the IOTA Contest. QSL via OM7JG.
EU-016. Mato, 9A3PA, and friends will activate the island and lighthouse of Glavat, as 9A8RR/p (Vrhovnjaci group, CI-144, LH-0170, CRO-004) on July 30-31st. QSL via OM7JG.
EU-077. Look for ED1URJ to be active from Sisarga Grande Island by operators CT1CJJ, CT1EEB, CT1EEN, EA1CA, EA1DAV, EA2TV, EA4ABE, and EA4ST, July 27-28th. Activity will be in the IOTA Contest using 100w mixed mode cw/ssb. QSL via EA4URJ bureau or direct.
EU-114. Dany, F5CW, has been signing FG/F5CW from Guadeloupe since June 22nd. However, now through July 12th, look for him as TO8CW from Guadeloupe Island, Basse Terre West Coast/Black Point (DIFO FG019) and a short trip to the Saintes (FG010). QSL via F8CMT direct or French REF Bureau.
EU-136. 9A0R will be active from the Island of Krk (CI-046) during the IOTA Contest on 40-10 meters (SSB and CW). Members are: OE1EMS, OE2WPO, OE8KDK, OE8MHQ, OE8SKQ and 9A9R. QSL via DJ2MX. A few days before and after contest they will be active as 9A/HOMECALL.
NA-052. Members of the Rusty Zipper HF and DX Contest Club (NA8KD)
will be active during July 30th through August 1st, from
Key Largo, FL, to Key West, FL. They will be working the
normal IOTA frequencies mainly on SSB. Please QSL via KG8DP.
They should have an on-line log shortly after their return.

J7, DOMINICA
George/K5KG and Fred/NA2U plan to be active from July 6-16th,
as J75KG and J79MM, respectively. They will operate the IARU contest as
J75KG. Operation will be on 80 through 10 meters, with concentration on
CW. They will be active on 6 meters if antenna arrangements can be made.
QSLs for J75KG will be via KU9C. QSLs for J79MM will be via NA2U.
KH2, GUAM
Aki, JR1VAY, will be active as KH2VI in the IARU HF World
Championship July 13-14th. Guam is in ITU Zone 64 and he will be in the
contest as a Single Op/All Band/SSB only entry. QS to JR1VAY through the
JARL Bureau.
LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY AND NEWS
Kjell, SM4DDS, will be operating from the Orskar Lighthouse, IOTA
EU-177 (ARLHS SWE-052), during the IOTA Contest and will be using
his IOTA callsign of 8S4C/5.
Ray, KB8ZYY, will be active from the Ausable Pierhead Lighthouse (ARLHS USA-929) on August 17th and 18th, on 20/40 meters and possibly 80 meters. QSL to callbook address with a 8 1/2 by 4 1/2 SASE.
LOW BAND FREQUENCIES
Tapani, OH2LU, informs OPDX readers that the allowed
low frequency bands in Finland (and in Europe) are as follows:
160m band: 1810-1850 kHz (max. 1000W), 1850-1855 kHz (max. 15W)
1861-1906 kHz (max. 15W), 1912-2000 kHz (max. 15W).
80m band: 3500-3800 kHz (max. 1000W)
40m band: 7000-7100 kHz (max. 1000W)
So, the low bands are narrower there than in the USA, and on 160m there
are discontinuances and power restrictions.
OZ, DENMARK
The EDR Vestfyn branch will participate in the annual VHF
Field Day, from 1400z, July 3rd through 1400z, July 4th, using the call
OZ5VF from Grid Square JO55CE near Faaborg at the Island of Fyn (EU-172).
Their suggested frequencies will be around (+/-QRM) 50.173 MHz, 144.173
MHz or 144.273 MHz and 432.173 MHz.
QSL INFO AND NEWS
The 3G1X and CB4A logs for the CQWPX CW 2002 Contest have been on-line
at their respective web pages since Monday, May 27th, just after the
Contest. Please, visit:
Jose, CT1EEB, informs OPDX that he has just received the last update for the 4W/CU3FT logs (month of April). All pending DIRECT requests are in the envelope and have been mailed (airmail - 78 envelopes). Right now all backlog of cards to reply either to his callsign or to 4W6EB, CU3/CT1EEB and 4W/CU3FT is up-to-date. Jose states, "Bureau cards will also follow soon, well as soon as he can find time to sort all this 4000 (probably more) cards and send them to Lisbon, hard to find some free time when you are on the mid 30's, Hi !"
4W/VK2QF QSL STATUS. Neville, VK2QF, reports that all outstanding cards have been processed and should have been dropped in the mail as of last Wednesday. During the next year or so, he will move all the generated labels to cards and process them to the bureau. After this, logs will be closed on his DXpedition. Neville adds that he has recently dealt with the death of his mother in March, a very ill father now to care for, plus 2 jobs.
Don, G3XTT, reports GB50 operation from Windsor Castle was probably the highest-profile special event station ever to be activated from the UK. Some 24,727 QSOs were made from 145 DXCC entities were archieved. Also, some several hundred visitors to Windsor Castle each day took time out to watch the operation and to tour the RSGB (Radio Society of Great Britain) Amateur Radio Experience exhibition. Rick Kourey, K4KL, informs OPDX that QSLs for contacts with NH4/NH6YK Miday Island DXpedition are now being received. He received his QSL Saturday, June 29th.
Nikolay, UX0FF, informs OPDX that he and others were on a small
DXpedition to Ochakivskij Island in the Black Sea (IOTA EU -182,
Ukrainian Island Award - DU-04). In about 60 hours of operation, they
made about 3900 QSOs. QSL cards are already printed. QSL via their

SPECIAL EVENT
Look for special event station K4S to operate from the
4th of July celebration at Shiloh National Military Park, Tennessee, on
Thursday, July 4th from 1600 UTC until 1800 UTC. A special full-color
QSL will be available for an SASE to K5JIM via his QRZ address. Activity
will be on 14270 and 21370, plus or minus QRM.
SPECIAL EVENT
The Prezes BGK (SP9PGB) will activate the special event
callsign SN150HZ (Sierra November One Five Zero Hotel Zulu) to celebrate
the 150th birthday anniversary of Hugo Zapalowicz. Activity will be on
CW/SSB/RTTY/SSTV/PSK, between July 15th and August 31st. QSL, please,
via the Bureau to SP9PGB. Hugo Zapalowicz was a Polish nature explorer
and the activist for nature preservation, author of the natural science
study, geological study and the study of folk names from region of the
Babia Gora Moutain. He was a propagater for climbing and highlander folk
custom. Babia Gora Moutain is at the top (1725m) of the Beskid Wysoki
in Polish Carpatia Moutain.
ST, SUDAN
Sid, ST2SA, showed up on the Arabian Net June 28th on 14252
around 0615z. Sometimes he is active on SSTV on 14230 at various times.

UIA ACTIVITY
Serge, UT2FA, will operate July 6-7th from the Island of
Shabash. Reference number DU-15 for the UIA ( Ukrainian Island Award ).
V7, MARSHALL ISLANDS
Hiro/JF1OCQ and Tsutomu/JA1VND will be touring the
Marshall Islands July 2-10th. During their vacation/DXpedition, they will
sign V73XX (JF1OCQ) and V73AA (JA1VND) from Majuro (OC-029). They plan
to operate on 80-6 meters SSB/CW/RTTY/SAT. Suggested frequencies are:
CW - 3507, 7007, 10108, 14027, 18077, 21027, 24897 and 28027 kHz
SSB - 3797, 7096, 14170, 18137, 21270, 24937 and 28470
RTTY - 14082, 21082
6m - 50.115 MHz (when split, they will be listening to 50.125)
Their equipment will be two Yaesu FT-100 for HF and 6m's Beacon, a
Kenwood TS-690SAT (for backup) and an Icom IC-706Mk2 (for backup). Their
antennas will be a Delta-loop (33 ft. x 2) for HF, Long-wire for HF and
a 4 elements YAGI for 6m. QSL via their home callsign, either direct or
through the JA bureau.
YA, AFGHANISTAN
According to the YA5T Web page, news on operators and
operations are as follows:
- Mark, VK4KMT, has left YA June 24th for a one month break.
- Karen, EK6KB, has left about 3 weeks ago.
- Mark, ON4WW, is back in YA since June 21st, for one week.
- Robert, S53R, is still in YA until July 13th.
- Peter, ON6TT, was expected to leave YA June 25th.
Nobody from the YA5T team is planned to be in YA from July 13th until
mid August (at the earliest). By July 13th, they expect to have close
to 40,000 QSOs.
ZL7, CHATHAM ISLAND
Ken Holdom, ZL4HU, Group Organizer/Team Leader/QSL
Manager, reports that "The Kermadec DX Association" is undertaking a
DXpedition to Chatham Island (ZL7) between October 15-29th, 2002. This
DXpedition follows their previous very highly successfull DXpeditions to
ZL8RI (Raoul Island) in May 1996 and ZL9CI (Campbell Island ) in January
1999. They do realize that ZL7 is not on the most wanted country list, but
the timing of this event will coincide with the CQWW SSB contest which
will give DXers and Contesters alike the oportunity to perhaps gain a
new band/mode for their awards, etc. The ZL7 DXpedition team will be made
up of international operators from USA, England, Germany, Japan, New
Zealand and possibly Canada. There is an exceptionally good mix of talent
within the team, most of whom have been on previous DXpeditions. They
hope to be able to operate 160-10 meters on all bands where possible,
realizing, of course, that this may not be the best time to undertake
such an event due to the position of the solar cycle. The operation site
has been arranged and confirmed, as well as their callsign which will
not be released until the time of the operation (this is to prevent
"Pirates" stations to use the call prior to the DXpedition). The
association is looking for funds/donations to help cover the high cost.
In addition to financial support, they are also looking for equipment
support in the way of filters, WARC and low band antennas, Radios etc.

previous Wellington addresses will no longer reach them. E-mails can be

Please note that there will be NO online logs or pilots and they will
NOT be E-qsling. This is a back-to-the-basics DXpedition, and they hope
that you will all get a great deal of satisfaction in making contacts
with them.

GB50 (Great Britain Fifty) at Windsor Castle ended operations at 1900 UTC on 9th June.
GB50 was probably the highest-profile special event station ever to be activated from the UK. For those of us fortunate enough to be involved, it was quite something to participate in the Queen's Golden Jubilee in this way, surrounded by the pageantry and history of Windsor Castle. As well as achieving 24,727 QSOs in 145 DXCC entities, several hundred visitors to Windsor Castle each day took time out to watch the operation and to tour the RSGB (Radio Society of Great Britain) Amateur Radio Experience exhibition. They were also given the opportunity to exchange greetings via the ham bands. Many visiting amateurs from around Europe and also from JA, W, etc. took the opportunity to operate the station. GB50 was also visited by His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh, Patron of the RSGB. A full write-up and photographs will appear in the RSGB magazine RadCom and also on the GB50 Website (www.gb50.com).
