ZL1AMO BECOMES VERY ILL IN FIJI!
Judy, AA7UC, informs OPDX that well known DXer, Ron Wright, ZL1AMO, while operating as 3D2RW in Fiji, became very ill and was admitted to the Lautoka Hospital diagnosed with collapsed lungs, pneumonia and was placed on life support. After a few days later, Ron was in critical condition and an emergency air ambulance was sent from New Zealand to pick him up and transport him back to a hospital in Auckland at a cost of $40,000! At one point Ron's daughter, Terri, informed Judy that Ron was in critical condition, unconscious and his kidneys were not functioning properly.
As the OPDX Bulletin was going to print, the latest from Judy, AA7UC is: "I am writing to give you the latest update from Ron's daughter, Terri. The doctors say there is no change; however, Ron is stable. The swelling has gone down and the kidneys are starting to function better. Morphine and sedatives have been discontinued. They are now waiting for Ron to "wake up" which could take a couple of days. If he doesn't wake up soon the doctors will perform a tracheotomy. If you would like to contact the family directly, Terri's E-mail address is: T.J.WRIGHT@xtra.co.nz
Ron and Jeanette Wright's address is: 28 Chorley Avenue, Massey, Auckland 8, New Zealand
Terri's address is: Terri Wright, 9b Mayburn Road, Te Atatu Peninsula, Auckland 8, New Zealand
The family thanks each of you for your prayers and concern. Let us continue to pray and hope." OPDX and its readers hope for a quick recovery for Ron, and we all will be waiting for his signal to hit the airwaves once again.

3C, EQUATORIAL GUINEA (Update)
Vitaly, VE6JO, informs OPDX that he finally received his visa! However, he did have a problem finding tickets, but now it is all finalized. He departs November 20th arriving in Malabo on November 22nd. There is very little chance for him to get his original license (3C2A) and set-up the station before the CQ WW CW Contest. So his callsign will be 3C2MV (unless it is easy and fast to change his license to 3C2A or 3C3A before the contest). Vitaly will try to operate in the contest with limited number of bands (more likely on 40/80 meters with an Inverted V). His attempt to get a 3 element SteppIR on loan was unsuccessful. However, he has purchased and refurbished a TH-3Jr in addition to Sigma 5, and will use wire antennas on 40/80 meters and maybe on 160. He has no antenna for 6 meters. He mentions, "Do not expect a big signal as I will run 100 watts (could not find an amplifier). I hope to operate on as many bands and modes as possible. However, I would like to ask everyone to be VERY patient with me. This is my first time on the DX side and I'm not sure how to handle the pile-up." Vitaly's activity will last until December 12-13th (operating time) and depart Malabo on December 14th (this will give him time to dismantle the station and prepare for departure). QSL direct only (He is not member of the National Association) with sufficient postage and SAE.

There have been DX-Cluster spots of 5Z4DZ on 30 CW which are not real. In Kenya (5Z4) 30 meters operations are not allowed. The same applies to RTTY spots. Alex does not work RTTY yet. QRN levels are giving Alex, 5Z4DZ, a hard time on 80 meters. That is why his 80m activity is low at the moment. There is no QSL backlog, and all incoming cards are anwered the same day.

Jerry, N9AVY, informs OPDX that he has not been the QSL Manager for Mark, AH2E, since 1988, and is still receiving cards for Mark from the Bureau. He does not have the logs nor the cards.

ZK1MA ROUTE. Bob (W7TSQ/ZK1ASQ) reports that as he was departing the South Cook Islands for home, there is already a pile of ZK1MA QSL cards received at ZK1JD's post office box in Rarotonga. Use the VOICE or FAX answering machine at 440-237-8208
which shares the same phone line as BARF-80 BBS using a data/fax/phone switch. To access: 1) Dial Number. 2) Wait for first ring (the second ring should be a false ring from the fax/data switch box) and then dial four quick ones ("1111"). (NOTE: Some FAX machines that send single "BEEPS" every second will not have to do this step.) 3) The phone will pick up and after the "BEEP" leave your voice message or FAX.
