3B8, MAURITIUS (Also Possibly 3B9)
Mart, DL6UAA (aka 3B8MM and 3B9MM), will once again head here for several weeks to be active as 3B8MM. He is calling it his 10 YEARS in "Paradise on Air Mission" (1994-2004). His activity will take place between October and November. An operation from Rodrigues Island (3B9MM) is possible, but it depends on the demand of the HAM community. 3D2, FIJI
Operators K2KW, N6BT, KE7X and possibly others will be active from Taveuni during the CQ WW DX CW Contest (November 27-28th) as a Multi-Multi (Lite) entry. QSL via WA4WTG. Activity outside of the contest will be on 160-10 meters, mainly CW.

6O0, SOMALIA (Good News/Bad News)
Good News First! Sam, VK2BVS, is currently active as 6O0A from Galkayo, Central Somalia, until September 30th. Reports indicate that he has established two club stations (the first at the Radio Galkayo ARC and the second at the Radio Daljir ARC) which are being used for amateur radio training courses. 8Q, MALDIVES
Jan/DL7JAN and Andreas/DL3GA will be active from August 26th to September 7th from Kandooma Island (South Male Atoll - IOTA AS013) as 8Q7JF (DL7JAN) and 8Q7GA (DL3GA). They will be active on 80-10 meters on CW/SSB and RTTY! There may be some PSK31. QSL via their home callsign, either direct or through the bureau is OK.

BALTIC TOUR 2004
By the time you read this Vincenzo, IZ0FKE, will be starting his "IOTA Microlite Baltic Tour" and will be active from Bjorkoby Island (EU-101 - Vaasa Group, Finland) until August 10th. He will then move to Parainen-Pargas Island (EU-096 - Turku Group, Finland) and be active from August 11-13th. After EU-096, he will then activate Finstrom Aland Main Island (EU-002) from August 14-18th. Vincenzo states, "All the places are located very close to sea, I rented cottages in special locations trying to install some vertical antenna very close to salt water. As usual I receive a massive support from the Alandia Contest Team OH0AZ (Mr.Peter OH0JFB). The microlite setup is based on Yaesu FT-857. EA8, CANARY ISLANDS
Hans, ON6ZK, will be active from Gran Canaria as EA8/ON6ZK, August 11-19th. His activity will only be on 17 meters. Watch 18155 kHz for SSB and 18080 kHz for CW (+/- depending on QRM). He will use a TS-50 with 50 watts and an inverted dipole. Look for him mainly during his evening hours. QSL is OK via the bureau or direct.

EI, IRELAND (Also IOTA/Lighthouse Activity)
Hal Turley, KC8FS, West Virginia ARRL Section Manager, will be traveling to Ireland and will operate August 13-23rd as EI/KC8FS/p from the western and southwestern coast of the Emerald Isle. He will operate both SSB and CW with 100 watts and "modest" wire and vertical antennas. Hal plans to operate from Clifden, the site of Marconi's phenomenal wireless station used during the early 20th century and the Aran Islands (EU-006). Hal has also received permission to operate from the Mizen Head Signal Station (IRE 053) during the International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend and will be active during this event on Saturday, August 21st, from the country's most southwesternly point. ES, ESTONIA (Special Callsign)
Oleg, ES1RA, from Tallinn, will use the special callsign ES1924J now through September 4th. Activity is valid for the "Estonia Award" (2 points) and the "DIG Award" (DIG 2512). FRENCH DX MEETING (Special Event Station)
The annual meeting of the French DX Club, "The Clipperton DX Club " (CDXC), will be held in Malataverne, (South of Lyon, SE of France), the 18th of September. The morning meeting will continue into the afternoon with numerous DXpedition programs (scheduled presentations are: T33C Banaba, TO4E/TO4WW Europa 2003, 5V7C Togo, Mexican Islands and IOTA). This will be followed by the usual "Doctorate of DX" examination and the Pile up CW and SSB Contest. Awards, Diplomas and other certificates will be given at the end of the meeting. GB8, SCOTLAND (Special Event)
Members of the West of Scotland ARS [GM4AGG] and Scottish-Russian ARS [MM0DGR] will be active as GB8RU before and during the Scottish-Russian Marathon 2004 (See SRM 2004 below). The station's QTH is: Hardgate, Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. QRA Locator IO75TW, WAB: NS47. Dates of activity: August 7-15th. Pertinent equipment available to their station is: Transceiver Kenwood TS-940S, Amplifier SB-220. Antennas are: Cushcraft X7, Delta Loop 80 m, Delta Loop 40 m, and a number of portable antennas. Contacts will be carried out on all HF bands, CW, SSB and Digital Modes. Special QSL cards will be issued. HH, HAITI
Jan, K4QD, a member of the Florida DXpedition Group, will be active as HH4/K4QD from August 16-27th. Jan is traveling to the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission where he will operate as time permits. He will be active on most bands on SSB and CW. QSL to K4QD via his new CBA (January 2004) or via the bureau. UPDATE: Jan announced that he will be taking a 6 meter station and antenna with him. He will leave the station monitoring 50.125 MHz for openings and activity while working on other projects. The NW Haiti Christian Mission is Grid Square FK39.

IOTA NEWS
AS-NEW. Arasu, VU2UR, reports that Raman, VU3DJQ, from New Delhi, has received permission for an operation at Rameswaram with the callsign AT0RI. Activity will be between August 23-31st, from Rameswaram, Pamban Island, Tamil Nadu State. There will be 13 permitted operators working from there for demonstrations and also DXing. They hope to have a 3 element beam and will use several wire antennas.

EU-025. Albert, IT9MRM, will be active as IT9MRM/p from Isola delle Palme (I.I.A. SR-010, M.I.A. MI-266), August 18-20th. Activity will be on 40/20/15/10 meters SSB between 0600-2200z daily. For more information, visit Albert's Web page at:

EU-064. Jerome, F5ASD, is now active as F5ASD/p from Noirmoutiers Island (DIFM AT-020) until August 15th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters, using a Yaesu FT-100 and 100 watts. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau.

EU-064. Franck, F4AJQ, will be active as F4AJQ/p from Noirmoutier Island, August 14-28th. Activity will be on HF and VHF. QSL either direct or via the French REF bureau.

EU-067. Mike, G8VHB, a member of the "International Short Wave League" (ISWL: G-14020), will be active as SV8/G8VHB from the Cyclades from September 14-30th. He states, "It would be nice to work a few more ISWL members from another location." Mike will be active on 40 and 20 meters using 100w on SSB and using vertical antennas from the the Island of Thira (Santorini). He might also be able to make some short 1 day excursions by ferry to activate some of other nearby islands, depending on band conditions.

EU-123. Look for Gigi, IK2UVR, to do a one operation from Great Cumbrae on August 9th. QSL via the Bureau or direct (QRZ.com).

NA-112. Look for Steve, W3HF, to be active as W3HF/4 from Bogue Banks Island (USI NC-010S, Grid Loc. FM14, Carteret County), North Carolina, from August 9-15th. Operations will be QRP on 40-15 meters. Equipment will be a vertical and a Yaesu FT-817. Primary mode will be PSK, with some SSB possible. This operation qualifies for the APE (August PSK Expedition) endorsement from the PODXS 070 Club:

J43 & SV0, GREECE
Wolff, DJ5JH, informs OPDX that he will be active as J43J in both WAEDC in August/September from the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece. QSL go via the bureau to his home callsign DJ5JH. QSOs count 10 points between May and September 2004 for the current "Olympia Award" by the RAAG. Outside the contests, look for him to use his new Greek callsign SV0XAO (this counts only 5 points).

J7, DOMINICA
Five members of the Florida DXPedition Group, Bill/W4WX (J75WX), Clarence/W9AAZ (J79AA), Larry/W1LR (J79LR), Cory/N1WON (J79CM*) and Vance/N5VL (J79VL*) will be on Dominica October 26th-November 2nd (* callsigns requested). They will operate from the Picard Beach Resort Cottages using only vertical antennas. Look for them during the CQWW DX SSB Contest as J75J. They will be on all bands and modes prior to and after the contest. QSL J75J via their manager KR4DA and all others via their home callsigns.

JW, SVALBARD
Harald/LA6LHA and Roger/LA4GHA are doing a mini DXpedition to Svalbard JW. They will operate from August 13-15th. Their callsigns will be JW6LHA (Harald) and JW4GHA (Roger). Activity will be on HF and 6 meters. QSL via bureau or direct to their home callsign as per the callbook address.

KEWEENAW PENINSULA ON THE AIR!
Matt/KB8KNM and Dan/KB8UYZ will activate the rare Grid EN67, from Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, September 5th. And for the county hunters, that's Keweenaw County. Listen for K8C on 80-2 meters SSB. Dan informs OPDX that this is just a one day operation. He states, "It's about an 8 hour drive from our QTH, and the spot we have chosen is about another 1 hour out in the woods (taking Jeeps to get back in there). We'll be operating from a cliff overlooking Lake Superior. Nice spot. This will be our first trip to EN67, and if all goes well, we do plan additional (operations), longer ones in the future. QSL direct via Dan, KB8UYZ. All QSLs will be answered. A S.A.S.E. is appreciated, but not required.

KG4, GUANTANAMO BAY
Bill/W4WX (KG4DX), a member of the Florida DXPedition Group, will be at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, August 10-14th. Bill will operate from the GTMO club station. Look for him on SSB, RTTY, and PSK-31 on most bands. QSL with SASE via his home callsign.

KH7K, KURE ATOLL
The Pacific DX Group is planning a DXpedition to Kure Atoll starting in mid-October for a 10 to 11 day operation. The team leaders are Kimo/KH7U and Patrick/NH6UY. They will be joined by an experienced international team of operators. The team consisting of about 15 operators will be active on 160-6 meters on SSB, CW, RTTY and with some PSK31. Operators mentioned so far are: KH7U, NH6UY, N4XP, WB4JTT, KO4RR, AA7A, N6MZ, DJ9ZB, I8NHJ, AH9B, N0AX, RZ3AA and JH7OHF. Kure is number 29 in North America and number 17 overall in the DX Magazine's "Most Wanted" for 2003. There has not been activity from here since 1997 and that operation resulted in a limited number of QSOs. Currently it is a wild life refuge normally closed to entry, and they are very lucky to be able to gain permission to land there. They want to give KH7K to as many North American DXers as they can on as many bands as possible. However, their primary target will be Europe. They also hope to provide a daily report and pictures while the DXpedition is in progress via the team's Web site. The Web page is currently under construction and can be found at:

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY
International Lighthousre/Lightship Weekend 2004 - Mike, GM4SUC, Organizer and Coordinator, reminds us that the ILLW is August 21-22nd. They have 250 stations in 37 countries confirmed. A full list can be found at:

Francis, F6HKS, will be active in the ILLW from the Port Leucate Lighthouse (Languedoc-Roussillon, Province in South France - PB 147 and FRA230) as F6HKS/P between the evening of August 20th until 1000z on August 22nd. Activity will be on 80/40/30/20/15 meters mainly CW, but SSB upon request. QSL direct to home callsign (SAE+Postage) or via the French Bureau.

The F6KUM ARS team will be active in the ILLW from the Cap d'Ailly Lighthouse (PB 009 and FRA 012).

Jean, F5IRC, will be active in the ILLW from the Antifer Lighthouse (PB 050 and FRA 220). This activation on HF is the first time.

The "Grupo Titan", LT7W (http://www.lt7w.tk) will operate during the ILLW from Faro "Golfo Nuevo" ("Golfo Nuevo" Lighthouse) ARG-038. Their Web page is under construction, and in few days it will put the info in English. QSL information is: P.O.Box 4, 9120-Puerto Madryn, CHUBUT, ARGENTINA. DX station send S.A.S.E. Jakob, OZ7AEI, will be active between August 13-15th from Sjaelland Island (IOTA EU-029, DIA SJ-001, WLH LH-1867) as OZ7AEI/p. He will also activate 3 lighthouses in the area of Stevns, namely Stevns GL P (ARLHS DEN-042), Stevns NY (ARLHS DEN-123) and Rodvig East Mole (ARLHS DEN-175). Operators RW6CT, RA6AU, RA6AX, UA6LGR and UA6MF will try to be active (third attempt) from the "Centre Caviar Mafia " on Tyuleniy Island (last activity 1992) in the Caspian Sea, Republic Dagestan, August 13-16th. This activity is valid for RRA RR18-01 and RDA DA-30. Also, the Lighthouse "Tyuleniy" is a NEW ONE for the ARLHS, RLHA and WLHA. The callsigns will be UE6WTI/p and the operator's homecalls/6. PJ4, NETHERLAND ANTILLES
Look for Bill/N2WB, Bob/K9MDO and John/W9ILY to be active as PJ4/homecall from Bonaire (SA-006), September 22-29th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters CW/SSB/RTTY. QSL 6L0NJ/4 via DS4AEN. A group of Gwangju Dx Club (6L0NJ) members activated Oenaro Island (IOTA, AS-060) over the past week and weekend. Operators were HL4SF, HL4UV, HL4XM, HL4CBI, HL4CEL, HL4CFN, HL4CFU, HL4CGB, HL4CJG, HL4CRO, HL4RBR, DS4BGR, DS4CMY, DS4DBF, DS4DEV, DS4DJC, DS4DLK, DS4DRE, DS4EOI and DS4FMG. CS7T LOG AND VIDEO. The Web page for the Berlenga Island DXpedition (to IOTA EU-040) is now complete with online logs, photos, AVI videos and stories (even the story of a survey trip to the famous Estelas Islets). Have a look at:

Benny, K5KV, reports that he is NOT the QSL Manager for: FS5UQ or any FS station except FS/K3LP and FS/N3KS.

Chris, KG6AR, reports that he is no longer the QSL Manager for the following stations: UU2JZ, EM3J, EO58JM, EO57JM, EO56JM, EO55JM and EO10J.

Hugo, LA5YJ, informs OPDX that all cards for XU7ACW, 9N7YJ and his homecalls (LA5YJ & MI0YJR) have been answered. This includes all Bureau cards as well. ADDED NOTE: Hugo informed OPDX that he will be in South-East Asia again. He does not know for how long, but he will keep us informed as soon as he obtains a license.

Press release by the Radio Club Ushuaia, LU8XW, states: "To clear up any confusion, the QSL Manager for LU8XW is Patrick, WD9EWK. We thank Jose "Pepe" (EA5KB) for handling QSL cards received by Jose Manuel (EA5BD), our previous QSL Manager who passed away last year, ensuring those stations received their LU8XW QSL cards. We thank EA5BD for his fine work as our QSL manager in the past, and EA5KB for his efforts after the death of EA5BD."

Chris, ZL1CT (GM3WOJ), reports that he has uploaded a total of 159600 QSO records to the "Logbook of the World", generating 10000 QSL matches, for the following personal, club and contest callsigns: GM3WOJ, GM3WOJ/MM, GM4DMZ, GM2MP, GS2MP, 2S2MP, GM6V, GM7V, 2S7V, GM8V, GZ7V, ZL1CT/MM, ZL1CT/4, ZL1CT and ZL1V. SPECIAL EVENT
Look for special callsign HE5IBC to be active on the HF bands during the month of August to honor the "10 GHZ ATV World Record of 1564KM" made on July 1st, 2004, between I8/HE5IBC (JM89AD) and EA7/F4CXQ (IM97CP). Activity this past week was on 20 meters CW/SSB on or around 14020 or 14215 kHz. QSL via HB9MM.

SPECIAL EVENT
Operators F5ASD, F8KFK and members of the F6KQA ARS will air the special callsign TM5BDM, September 4-5th, to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the First Battle of River Marne during WWI. Activity will be on HF, VHF and UHF. QSL via F5ASD, either direct or via the Bureau.

SRM 2004
The Scottish-Russian ARS introduces Scottish-Russian Marathon to encourage activity by all radio amateurs worldwide to contact areas of Scotland and Russia. This is purely an activity week and will enable participants to pursue the CAOSA Award Scheme, WAB Scotland Award Scheme, IOSA and SCOTIA Award Scheme, SOTA Award Scheme, ARLHS Award Scheme, RDA Award Scheme, RRA Award Scheme, RIIA Award Scheme, RMA Award Scheme, RFFA Award Scheme, RLHA Award Scheme, RABA Award Scheme, and provide an interest in contacting different areas of Scotland and Russia. The event is to be held on the full second week in August each year. The 2004 Marathon will start at 0000z on Monday, August 9th, and last until 2400z on Sunday, August 15th. Activity is encouraged on all HF bands by individual licensees and club stations or the use of a special event call sign from radio amateurs in Scotland and Russia. For more info:

ST2, SUDAN
QSL Manager Dennis, PA7FM, informs OPDX that Paul, ST2PN, is now active. Paul is also in Khartoum for his work for the "World Food Program" (WFP) of the UN and will be active now and then in his spare time. He will be out in the field, in Darfur (the problem area in Sudan), most of the time where radio operations are not allowed. ST2PN was heard this past week on 18122-18130 kHz between 1230-1500z. TK, CORSICA
Christophe, F4DZY, will be active as TK/F4DZY, between August 8-22nd. His activity will be mainly on HF and SSB. Christophe is in Corsica (EU-014) for his job, so his activity will be limited to only his spare time. A special QSL card will be printed for this activity. Charles, M3ZYZ, a "The World Lighthouse Foundation" (TWLHF) member and one of the executive comittee members of TWLHF, informs OPDX that he would like to clarify that he is not the President of this Foundation and that role belongs to Kresimir Juratovic, 9A7K, and no one else.

UB40, ASIATIC RUSSIA (Special Activity)
Vlad, UA0FZ, is currently active as UB40FSU to celebrate his 40th anniversary of his first amateur radio activity. The callsign UB5FSU was his first license given to him in 1964 in the Ukraine. His activity has been mostly on CW on 40/30/20/17 meters. QSL via UAOFZ "ONLY" (NOT W3HNK).

V47, NEVIS ISLAND

VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLAND (Expense paid trip to VP5X for CQWW Phone!)
Kelly, N0VD, team member of VP5X, announced the following: "Once again David, KY1V (the 2004 Radio Amateur of the Year), is putting together the team of operators for the 2004 CQWW Phone Contest operating from VP5X. As a member of the VP5X team, we have started soliciting essays from young hams around the world under the age of 21 to apply to join us for an expenses paid DXpedition to North Caicos Island. The Young Ham Contest Program was developed by KY1V in 2003 to encourage teen and pre-teen hams to tell their friends about the fascinating possibilities associated with Amateur Radio with regards to contesting and DX-peditions. Young hams worldwide can apply for the Young Ham Contest Program by sending a 500+ word essay describing how he/she got started in ham radio, naming his/her elmer (mentor), and telling why he/she should be selected this year's CQWW Phone Contest operation. One winner will be selected from the many world-wide entries to join us as VP5X. With the contest just about 90 days away, we would like to begin the selection process soon. If you are a young ham that would enjoy an expense paid trip to VP5, please submit your essay soon. We are trying to spread the word as much as possible, so if you could pass this along to any clubs/associations/reflectors that you may be part of, that would be great. Operators K4UU, K6CT, K9VV, KI4CCO, W4OV, WD4R and W4OV will be active during the CQWW SSB Contest this year as a Multi/? entry. Callsign and QSL route will be announced later.

YI9, IRAQ
Marek, SP2OVN, informs OPDX that Ryszard, SP8HKT, is operating as YI9KT (as of July 25th) and will be there for 5 months. He uses 100 watts into a vertical antenna and is expected to be active on 40-10 meters plus the WARC bands, mostly CW but also SSB if you ask. Marel states that you can search for him between 0730-930z and 1630-2030z, usually on the first 15 kHz of each band. Over the past week, OPDX spotted Ryszard on 40m around 1753z, 30m around 1731z, 20m around 1948z, 17m between 1300- 1430z and again between 1845-2030z, and on 10m after 0930z. QSL via the bureau or direct to his home callsign.

YU6, SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO (Special Prefix and Award)
Montenegrins radio amateur stations have been using a special prefix which started July 1st and will end August 31st. They are adding the number "100" after their regular prefix (ex. YT6A - YT6100A and YU6RKB - YU6100RKB etc.). Activity is for celebrating 100th anniversary of Marconi's first commercial radio relay on the MF band between Montenegro (City of Bar) and Italy (City of Bari). QSL information for all special prefixes is via YT6A. Also, a special "MARCONI MONTENEGRO 100 Award" is available to all amateurs worldwide who submit three QSL cards as confirmation of having contacted three Montenegrins radio amateur stations with the special prefixes during the activity period, or one QSL card as confirmation of having contacted the memorial radio station 4O6100BB. In addition, endorsement stickers are available as listed below:

       Endorsement stickers for the basic mixed mode/band award are
       available for SSB, CW any single band . The GOLD endorsement is
       available for the applicant who has worked 10 stations with special
       prefixes, including memorial station 4O6100BB. QRP is defined as
       10 watts input (or 5 watts output) of the applicant only and is
       affirmed by signature of the applicant on the application.

Applications with QSL cards and 10 IRCs or 10E have to be sent to the Award Manager YT6A: Ranko Boca, Nikole Ljubibratica 78, Herceg Novi 85340, Montenegro, Serbia and Montenegro. YV0D DXPEDITION QRT
Yes QRT! This is a big disappointment for DXers as well as the YV0D team. This rare one (in the top 10 most wanted DXCC entities) had to go QRT a few days early due to bad weather heading toward Aves Island. YV0D went silent August 4th at 1045z. Despite the short operation, YV0D logged some 18,500 QSOs -- including a number of 6-meter QSOs during an opening -- in around 59 hours of operation, according to The Daily DX http://www.dailydx.com. The QSL Manager for this DXpedition is KB6NAN: Dianna Killeen, POB 911, Pescadero, CA 94060-0911. Please include a SASE (U.S. stations) or a SAE and the appropriate return postage (non-US stations) with QSLs. They will also accept cards via the bureau.
