3D2/R, ROTUMA
Just a reminder. By the time you read this, Tony, FO5RK, is expected to be here until possibly the end of January. He will be active as 3D2AG/P. Activity will be limited during the first two weeks because of his work. Full-time operations are expected to start around December 15th. Look for him to be on 80-10 meters CW/SSB and 6 meters. For updates and online log, visit:

http://www.3d2ag.fr.tc/

5R, MADAGASCAR
Remco, PG0A, has once again returned here and will be active as 5R8NL until December 7th. His first operation was back in 2005. Activity will be a "holiday style" operation. He will be using a FT-857 with an amplifier using verticals and some wire antennas. Remco was heard this past week only on CW and on 40/20/17/15/10 meters at various times throughout the day; earlier as 0830z and as late as 2030z. OPDX was informed by Dennis, PA7FM, that Remco is not into QSLing at all, and effective immediately, PA7FM has taken over Remco's QSL job for this operation as well as the earlier operations. Dennis states, "There's a small backlog of direct QSL request that will be cleared after this operation as soon as possible. Apologies for that to those awaiting an answer." He also mentions that a small Web site will become available online with the possibility of online logs and more photos when the internet connection is good enough. Please remember this is a holiday style operation with just one operator, so no 24 hour around the clock operation.

CE0Z, JUAN FERNANDEZ ISLAND
Svein, LA6IKA, has been on a three month vaction in South America since the beginning of November. He has operated from Chile (CE/LA6IKA) and Argentina (LU/LA6IKA) on 20 meters CW and PSK. In late January he is expected to operate as CE0Z/LA6IKA from Juan Fernandez Island (SA-005). Svein will use an ICOM 703 with only 10 watts and small antennas. QSL via his home callsign. ADDED NOTES: He will also try to get a licence for Easter Islands (CE0Y/LA6IKA). Svein has a blog which keeps you up-to-date on his activities at:

http://la6ika.blogg.no/

CT9, MADEIRA ISLAND
Luis, CT3EE, will activate CT9EPC, a special callsign for the EPC (European PSK Club) members on Madeira Island, between December 3-8th and again during December 22-28th. Activity will be mainly on 40/20 meters because of propagation. The callsign CT9EPC is used only on the Digital modes, and the main objective is to have more activity on these modes. QSL direct to CT3EE (see (QRZ.com)) and not to the Bureau (he is not a member of the Portuguese National QSL Bureau). Please visit the EPC Web page at:

http://eu.srars.org/index.php?option=com_weblinks&catid=29&Itemid=144

EA8, CANARY ISLANDS (AF-004)
Giovanni, IZ2DPX, will be active as EA8/IZ2DPX from the Island of Fuerteventura between December 30th and January 6th. Activity will be on 40/20/17/15/12/10 meters using a Kenwood TS-50 with a MFJ Tuner into a Spar I1UJX multiband vertical antenna. QSL direct to IK2DUW or by the Bureau.

INDEXA (Helping Make DX Happen)
Gary Dixon, K4MQG, INDEXA President, wants to alert fellow DXers that the recently revised INDEXA Web site now has additional features and functions. The INDEXA Web site can be viewed at:

http://www.indexa.org/
Gary states, "INDEXA is all about providing financial support for DXpeditions considered to be on the 'most wanted list', so hope the pending DXpeditions we are supporting will be a new DXCC entity or at least provide you with a few new band countries. Anyone interested in supporting INDEXA and its goals (including membership or donations) can get information from the Web site."

NETHERLANDS ANTILLES TO NET NEW DXCC ENTITIES FOR 2008!
Over the past year much discussion has been made about the possibility of new DXCC entities happening once the break-up/disbanding of the Netherlands Antilles takes effect on December 15th, 2008. This past week, the President of European DX Foundation (EUDXF), Hans, PB2T, who visited ARRL HQ in July and had a discussion about the DXCC status of Netherlands Antilles, feels after December 15th, 2008, it looks like four new entities will be added to the DXCC list in the future (Curacao, Sint Maarten, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Bonaire).

OH0, ALAND ISLAND
Operator Ari, OH5DX, will be active as OH0Z during the CQ 160-Meter CW Contest (January 26-27th, 2008) as a Multi-Op entry. QSL via W0MM.

OH0, ALAND ISLAND
Operator Juha, OH9MM, will be active as OH0Z during the CQ WW RTTY WPX Contest (February 9-10th, 2008) as a Single-Op/All- Band entry. QSL via W0MM.

PIRATE ALERTS
FR7BB - Marcel, F6EKB (ex-FR7BB), doesn't know anything about this callsign being reissued. It was recently heard on the air. Marcel left Reunion Island in 1976 and was 3X0HNU until 1993. By the way, he still has his logs.

MU0A - Phil, GU0SUP, reports that during the CQWW CW Contest, the callsign MU0A was very active and was spotted numerous times, and made many S&P contacts. He states, "Sadly, this call has never been issued, a fact which has been confirmed by Ofcom, the licencing authority in the UK, and therefore the operation was a pirate."

PJ4, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
Larry, Wo0Z, will be active as PJ4/Wo0Z from Bonaire (SA-006) from December 8-15th. He will be active on CW, SSB and possibly RTTY on whatever bands are open in this holiday-style DXpedition. QSL via Wo0Z (PLEASE NOTE: "Whiskey Oscar zero Zulu").

SILENT KEYS
OPDX and its readers would like to send out our deepest sympathy to the families and friends of the following Silent Keys:

Wolf Baron, TI2BY, was a well-known ham who started his hobby shortly after WWII and remained active until the present day. In Costa Rica and Latin America, he pioneered digital modes, especially packet. But overall Wolf Baron was known as one of the great teachers of amateur radio in Central and South America.

Dan Umberger, W8ZCQ, became a Silent Key (SK) on November 30th. He was a serious DXER and had 378 countries to his credit. An online obituary is available with a online guestbook at:

http://www.legacy.com/Dispatch/Obituaries.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=98872947

TR, GABON
Roland, F8EN, will once again be active as TR8CR (possibly with a special callsign) from Libreville from December 7th to January 12th. Activity will be mostly on 20 meters (14005, 14125/200 kHz). There is a possibility that Roland may make a short operation from an island in the AF-043 IOTA group. QSL via F6AJA or F8EN.

YB, INDONESIA
Juergen, DJ3KR, is now active as YB1AQB until December 15th. He will be active on all bands using an IC-7000 into a vertical that is 10m in height. Activity has been mainly on 40/30/17 meters CW between 1100-1700z. QSL via his home callsign.

YJ0, VANUATU
Three members of the VK Contest Club will be active from here as YJ0AX during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th, 2008) as a Multi-2 entry. Operators mentioned are Trent/VK4TI, Tony/VK3TZ and Laurie/VK4VCC. QSL routes will be announced later for NA and Europe. A Google group for discussion - YJ0AX2008, has been set up for interest and is open to all operators of contest calibre.
