5B/C4, CYPRUS

FK, NEW CALEDONIA
Just a reminder that Jean-Louis, F5NHJ, will be active this week as FK/F5NHJ from the main island of Grande Terre (OC-032, DIFO FK-001, WLOTA LH1280) between August 12-29th. Activity will be mainly on CW and the Digital modes on 30 meters. During his stay, Jean Louis will try to activate one or several other FK islands. HI9, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Adriano, IK2GNW, is expected to activate Cayo Leventado Island (NA-122) as HI9/IK2GNW between now and August 22nd. Activity will be on 80-6 meters using SSB and RTTY. IOTA NEW
AS-093. Members of the Gwangju DX Club (6L0NJ) will be active as 6L0NJ/4 from the Huksan Islands, August 15-18th. Activity will be on all HF bands using SSB, CW and various Digital modes. QSL via HL4XM.

EU-048/
EU-068.
Members of the French Sevran ARC (F5KKD) plan to visit the following IOTAs between August 20-24th. The Gulls team will first activate Belle-Ile-en-Mer in the Bretagne (Morbihan) Region Group (EU-048, AT-015, WLOTA 0872). They will then move to Sein Island in the Bretagne (Finistere South West) Region Group (EU-068, AT-007, WLOTA 2721). No specific dates were provided. Operators mentioned are David/F4FDA, Dimitri/ F0FLH and Bastien/F4EYQ. They plan to have three stations on the air at the same time, as long as possible. Activity will be on 80-10 meters SSB and 2 meters. Look for them on the following suggested frequencies: 3755/3693 (+/-1 kHz), 7055/ 7093 (+/-1 kHz), 14260/14193 (+/-1 kHz), 21260/21293 (+/-10 kHz), 28460/28460, (+/-10 kHz) and 144300/144393 (+/-5 kHz). EU-052. Giorgos, SV1HEM, will be active as SV1HEM/8 from Meganisi Island, August 13-17th. Activity will be on all the bands from 80-6 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. He will use a Yaesu FT-897D and Kenwood TS-50 into a G5RV (80-10m), a dipole for 6m, a vertical antenna Eco ART-71 and Dentron AT 60-10 antenna tuner. Meganisi is a small island of the Ionian Sea and is 4 nautical miles southeast of Lefkas, KM08IP.

EU-076. Przemek "Mek", SP7VC, will be active as LA/SP7VC from Lofoten Islands (Grid JP67) between now and August 15th. Activity will be on 80/40/20 meters using dipole antennas and 700 watt amp, as well as operations on VHF 144.355 MHz (FSK441 Random on MS using 9 element yagi and 1 kW amp). EU-095. Members of the EME Phoceen Radio Club (F5KDK) will be active as TM5F from Frioul Archipelago between August 15-18th. Activity will be on the HF bands, CW, SSB, PSK and RTTY. EU-128. Tim, DE3RPC, will be active as DE3RPC/LH from the Flugge lighthouse (DLTD #19, TWLHD WLH DL-006, WLOL FED-085, Admiralty C1288.1) on Fehmarn Island (O-01 for the German Islands Award, WLOTA LH-0637) from August 10-13th. All stations which are logged by him will receive a special lighthouse QSL card automatically via bureau.

EU-136. Matt, S53AU, will be active as 9A/S53AU from Cres Island (WLOTA L 0553 (CI-012, MC-056) between now and August 16th. Activity will be "holiday-style" and only on CW on 80-30 meters using a TS-450SAT (w/100 watts) and windom antenna.

EU-189. (Update) Col, MM0NDX, states that currently one of the two available places has been filled for the 2009 Rockall operation. Members of the Union of Radio Hams of Corunna (URLC) are planning to activate the "Tower of Hercules" lighthouse (ARLS SPA-276) during August 15-17th. They will use the callsign AM1TDH. With this activation they are trying to help the "Tower of Hercules" become a candidate for the oldest working lighthouse in the world and to make the UNESCO's World Heritage list. Look for operators in India from the Bangalore Amateur Radio Club to activate the Mahabalipuram Lighthouses (IND 016 [old IND 011]) in the Kancheepuram District for the first time ever during the International Lighthouse-Lightship Week. Activity will take place between August 15-24th, and they will be using the special callsign AT8LH. For more details and the QSL route, check out the info on QRZ.com.
ADDED NOTE: Look for possible lighthouse operations during the weekend from Panaji and Goa State regions. Callsigns to be used are VU2SMS/LH and VU2ROE/LH.

Members of the Strumblehead DX and Contest Group will be active from Strumblehead Lighthouse (Loc: IO72LA; WAB: SM84PEM Pembrokeshire; Lighthouse Numbers: A5274, WAL-029 and WLOTA 3811; BARLS member #458) for the ILLW weekend of August 16-17th, using the callsign GB0SH. Look for activity a few days before and after the ILLW with operators using the club callsign MC0SHL. The team will consist of Ant/MW0JZE, Rob/MW0RLJ, Tim/M0URX, Oli/MW3SDO and Chris/G1VDP. Tim (M0URX) will be active as MW0URX and Chris (G1VDP) will be active as GW1VDP before and after the weekend also. A special QSL will be available and the logs will be uploaded to LoTW after the operation. Activity will be on 80-10 meters SSB with some RTTY by Chris, G1VDP, if time permits. QSLs for GB0SH go via MW0JZE and MC0SHL via M0URX, all others via their home callsigns.

Members of the Swiss Lighthouse Activity Group will be active as HB9LH from Romanshorn Lighthouse (ARLHS SWI-005, WASL HB-TG-001, DCS-TG057 and Grid JN47QN) during the ILLW (International Lighthouse/ Lightship Weekend), August 16-17th. Operators mentioned are: Michel/ HB9DLO, Pascal/HB9DWR and Pierre-Yves/HB9OMI. QSL via bureau (USKA) and/or via HB9DLO.

Look for Mike/N8MR, Lynette/KC8NAH and Vincent/KA8FFM to activate Eagle Harbor Lighthouse (US0017) during the ILLW (August 16-17th), using the callsign K8E. Modes of operation include HF/VHF, CW/SSB, FM Satellite and possible HF digital. Collectors of ARLHS numbers can get credit for three upon request: Eagle Harbor Lighthouse USA-253, Front Range Light USA-254 and Rear Range Light USA-255. QSL via N8MR direct with #10 SASE or via the bureau. They will also be activating other lighthouses around Michigan's Keweenaw peninsula from August 18-23rd. Operators Jorge/LU4WG and Pedro/LU7WW will activate for the first time Punta Tehuelche lighthouse (ILLW AR-0035, ARLHS ARG-059) for the IILW weekend. Pedro is expected to start the activity on August 11th. QSL (for non-LU stations) direct (w/2 IRCs) to: Casilla de Correo 4 (P.O.Box 4), Puerto Madryn 9120, Prov.Chubut, Argentina or via EA5KB. Stations from Argentina, QSL via LU4WG.

Members of the GPDX, Daniel/PT7BI and Moreira/PT7ZT will be active as homecall/P from the Mucuripe Lighthouse (ARLHS BRA-261 and DFB CE-05) in Ceara, Brasil, during the 2008 International Lighthouse- Lightship Weekend.

Operators SP2BIK, SP2BRN, SP2IZC and SP2TQW will be operating from the historical lighthouse in Gdansk Nowy Port, Poland, from August 15-18th. They will be using the callsign SN2NP and operate on CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. QSL via SP2BIK.

Members of the Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association will use the special event callsign W1T for one day (August 16th) to activate the North Tower Lighthouse (ARLHS USA-1027) on Thacher Island (IOTA NA-148, USI MA001S and Grid FN42rp). Activity will be on 40/20 meters using CW, SSB and PSK. QSL via W1GLO: Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association, 6 Stanwood Street, Gloucester, MA 01930 USA (w/SASE). eQSL are available for all contacts.

The Old Barney ARC will operate special event station W2T from the Tucker's Island Lighthouse (USA-911) located in the Tuckerton Seaport ( http://www.tuckertonseaport.org) on August 16th from 1300-2030z. Operation will be primarily on 40 and 20 meters SSB and local 2 meter FM. QSL via N2OO.

OH0, ALAND ISLAND
Juha, OH9MM, will be active as OH0I during the CQ World Wide DX CW Contest (November 29-30th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (10m) entry. QSL via OH3BHL.

PJ2, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
Joeke, PA0VDV, will be active as PJ2/PA0VDV from Curacao (SA-006), October 2-19th. Activity will be CW only. QSL via his home callsign, by the Bureau or direct.

7X5VRK INFO NEEDED. As you may know Mac, W3HC, has retired as QSL Manager and Bob, N2OO, is now distributing most of the QSL cards for callsigns that Mac managed. However, Steve, N3SL, informs OPDX that one of the very active stations his daughter, Kim, has picked up after the retire- ment of Mac, W3HC, is 7X5VRK. He states, "We now have blank cards in hand, but there were no logs of any kind to be found. Published E-mail addresses, to include the most recent address Mac had, has not lead to any response in over 3 weeks. If anyone has a good E-mail route to 7X5VRK, we would certainly appreciate having it. And to all who have sent requests already, QRX. We certainly hope we can obtain logs." SILENT KEY
OPDX was informed that Rodrique "Rod" Gagnon, VE2NN, well- known operator in Zone 2 for many years, became a Silent Key due to stomach cancer on July 14th. OPDX and its readers would like to pass on our deepeest sympathy to the family and friends of VE2NN.

TA0, TURKEY
By the time you read this Karl, WA2KBZ, should be active as TA0/WA2KBZ from Buyukada Island, in the Sea of Marmara, until September 1st. Expected activity will be on 40/30/20/17 meters, mostly CW, with a possibility of some 15 meters (if open). He will be semi-QRP with 60 watts to dipole up about 200 feet above the sea hanging from balcony. Karl will start on 30 meters around EDT/CDT supper time. QSL via WA2KBZ.

TC3, TURKEY
Operators Elif/TA3YE (YL) and Can/TA3GO will be active as TC3EC during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 25-26th) as a Multi-Op/ All-Band entry. QSL via TA3GO.

TC4, TURKEY (Asian Turkey QRV until August 12th)
You still have a few more days to work the special callsign TC4X. However, if you miss it, TC4X will be activated on several occasions during 2008. The new alliance between Turkish and Finnish hams which include OH2BH, OH2PM, OH8NC, TA1HZ and others, are operating from the beautiful seafront city of Mahmutlar in the Antalya Province in Southern Turkey (Asia). VK9C, COCOS (KEELING) ISLANDS (Update)
Giovanni, I5JHW, will be active as VK9CJW from here between August 22-29th. His operation will be holiday style but with activity on 40/20/17/15/12/10 meters using SSB and RTTY. Chris, DL1MGB, wants to remind everyone that a DXpedition to Willis Island (VK9DWX) will take place in October this year. He states, "For our support we had to charter a second boat which will come in the middle of the DXpedition to Willis Island to support us with fuel, fresh food / drinks, ... As there are some seats unused on this boat, we had the idea of offering a four day trip for 'tourists' to visit our DXpedition. There are still some places left....."

VP8, ANTARCTICA
Ian, VP8DLJ (G0VZM and VP8ROT), will be camping near a mountain called Trident on Adelaide Island this week. He has built an Elecraft K1 tranceiver (QRP CW rig) and states that he has "attempted to learn morse code. I will try most nights to use 40m (7010 kHz) at aproximatly 2200 UTC. If you are near a radio, you might want to listern out for the slow broken morse of VP8DLJ. Note, from my base at Rothera I have had very little luck hearing or transmitting in the last month and therefore; I am not expecting great results. However, it would be fantastic to at least receive a call to my callsign."

ZF, CAYMAN ISLANDS (Corrected)
Randy, K5SL, will be active as ZF2SI (not ZS2SI) from Grand Cayman until August 16th. Activity will be mostly CW/SSB on 17 meters on 18150 and 18077 kHz. Also, look for him around 0400z on 40 meters CW around 7033 kHz. QSL via his home callsign K5SL.

ZS8, MARION ISLANDS
