4J, AZERBAIJAN (Contest and WFF Op)
Members of the "Safari DX Activators Club of Azerbaijan" will be activating two different Nature Reserves between September 20th and October 3rd. The operators/participants are representatives of the countries of Latvia, Russia and Azerbaijan. There will be two different teams, callsigns and QSL routes:

4K3FF Team - Activity from the Natural Reserve "Turyanchay" (4JFF-014, see http://www.qrz.com/db/4K3FF/1284621334 ) between September 20th and October 3rd. Activity will be on 40/20 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. Operators mentioned are: Yuris/YL7A, Natig/4J5T, Boris/4K4K and Leonid/4J8VHF. Operation is valid for the AzeDA (Azerbaijan Districts Award; index of territory - AH). The team will be equipped with Elecraft K3 transceiver plus a 200w amps and 40m Loop antenna. Also, look for Yuris, YL7A, to be in the CQWW DX RTTY Contest (September 25-26th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (40m)/Low-Power entry. QSL all activity via YL7A direct.

4J0WFF Team - Activity from the Natural Reserve "Ag Gel" (4JFF-001, see http://www.qrz.com/db/4J0WFF/1284620268 ) between September 25-27th. Activity will be on 40/20 meters using CW, SSB and PSK31. Operators mentioned are: Sergey/RA6FPL (4K3FPL), Vladimir/RL7KT (4K3QQA), Natig/4J5T, Boris/4K4K, Alexander/ 4J7WMF, Serge/4J5A and Igor/4K6OF. Operation is valid for the AzeDA (Azerbaijan Districts Award; index of territory - AI. The team will be equipped with a UW3DI transceiver plus a 200w amp and a 40m Loop and Inverted-V antennas. 5H, TANZANIA
Pat, W8FV, will be returning to Mwanza and will be active as 5H9PD between October 2-30th. Activity will probably be on 40-10 meters, depending on propagation, mostly CW with maybe some PSK31. There may be some 80 meters. QSL via his home callsign.

5R, MADAGASCAR (5R8X and Low Bands)
Jarmo, OH2BN, sent out the following press release on September 14th (edited): "The group of Martti/OH2BH, Pertti/OH2PM, Veijo/ OH6KN, Antti/OH7EA and Juha/ OH8NC will escape the Nordic ice and snow to provide you with a 5R8 on the low bands and a Zone 39 multiplier.

Their destination will be Antananarivo, the Republic of Madagascar, and the callsign 5R8X will hit the bands from October 26th-November 10th, including the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 30-31st). OH2PM and OH6KN will dedicate their efforts to 160m and 80m.

This activity is primarily targeted to satisfy the global demands on the low bands. The team will be using a large field and a setup of vertical antennas on all low bands. WARC activity will also be provided.

The 5R8X team will be using lightweight K3 radios by Elecraft and appreciate their support and cooperation.

This operation will be conducted in cooperation with Ake, 5R8FU. More details to follow shortly."

5V7, TOGO (Update)
The Italian DXpedition team to Togo (that takes place between October 10-23th) announced some new QSL info this past week. For the upcoming operation, the Bureau service will now also be used. The Bureau QSL manager will be G6BMY. To manage QSLs via the Bureau, the Global QSL Service will be used through G6BMY. So, if you want to send your request of confirmation via the Bureau, send it to G6BMY. If you want to send your request of confirmation via direct, send it to I2YSB. They also announced that a OQRS (Online QSL Request System) will be used on their Web page to request direct QSLs without the need to send yours at:

6V, SENEGAL (Update)
Enrico, IK2FIL, will be active as 6V7X from Le Calao during the last two weeks in September. Main activity will be for the CQWW DX RTTY Contest (September 25-26th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry. Operations will be on 80-10 meters. Outside of the contest, Enrico will be on 30 meters RTTY only after 2100z because he is on holiday. CG3, CANADA (Special Event)
Operators of the Canadian Coast Guard Station/VBA (VE3VBA) will activate the special callsign CG3MUG during the month of November. Activity is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of "Thunder Bay MCTS Centre (Canadian Coast Guard Radio Station)" located at the western end of Lake Superior. They plan to be active on VHF and HF bands using CW, SSB, PSK, RTTY and FM, as well as VoIP (CQ100) and perhaps other Digital modes. There will be several options for amateur radio stations and SWLers to obtain a special 100th anniversary CG3MUG QSL card (a certificate may also be designed). As it gets closer to the event, and they make the final preparations, they will update the CG3MUG listing on the (QRZ.com).

CR3/CT9, MADEIRA ISLANDS
German operators Walter/DJ6QT, Peter/DJ6XV, Horst/DK1QH, Dieter/DK4QT, Hans/DL1YFF and Thomas /DL6LK will be active as CR3L during the CQWW DX RTTY Contest (September 25-26th) as a Multi-? entry. QSL via DJ6QT. Operators will probably be active as CT9/homecall before and after the contest.

DX MARATHON (Update)
John, K9EL, DX Marathon Administrator, reported on September 17th: "Just a few months left to build your country count for the 2010 DX Marathon sponsored by CQ Magazine. In addition to the two plaques for the winner in each category, attractive certificates are awarded for the top score per country, top score per single mode submission, top score per single band submission and top low power (10 watts or less) score.

The DX Marathon Web site now includes helpful hints to avoid common errors and also includes a list of known pirate stations that will not likely count for the 2010 Marathon.

AF-018. Tony, IK1QBT, will be active as IG9/IK1QBT from Pantelleria Island (IIA TP-001) between November 23-30th. EU-045. Members of the A.R.I. Sezione di Cinisello Balsamo (IQ2CJ) will be activating two islands from the IOTA group EU-045 as IB0/IZ2ACD between September 25th and October 2nd. Activity will be from Ponza Island (WAIP LT, IIA LT002) and Zannone Island (WAIP LT, IIA LT012). Operations will be on 80/40/20/ 17/15/10 meters. QSL via IZ2ACD direct ((QRZ.com)). NA-066. Tom, AB6Z, will be active from San Clemente Island (USI CA008S, WLOTA 2332, Los Angeles County, CA) between October 1-30th. Activity will be limited due to his work schedule, but look for him on 40/20 meters using mainly CW (with some SSB). He will operate with only 100 watts and a vertical antenna. J2, DJIBOUTI
Freddy, F5IRO, who has been active as J28RO since July, is planning to be active in both the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 30-31st) and CQWW DX CW Contest (November 27-28th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High- Power entry. Mike, RW1AI (ex-UA1AFM), currently active as R1ANP from the Progress Antarctic station, is planning to activate the Chinese's Zhongshan Antarctic Base for the first time ever. Look for him to be active as R1ANP/A from Zhongshan station in October and November. He will be using 100 watts into vertical antenna. Robert, S53R/ST2AR, will be active in next weekend's CQWW DX RTTY Contest (September 25-26th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Lower-Power entry. QSL direct to his home callsign.

T30, WEST KIRIBATI
Operators Jacek/SP5EAQ and Jacek/SP5DRH will once again head to the Pacific next year, but this time to activate Tarawa Island (OC-017) as T30AQ and T30RH, respectively, between March 1-17th (2011). Activity will be on all bands 160-10 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. Jacek, SP5DRH, will focus mainly on 160 meters and 30 meters RTTY, with some 80 meters. Jacek, SP5EAQ, is a SSB operator and will operate on the remaining bands. They will have two separate stations using Elecraft K3/100 with 600w amps. Antennas are: 18m high Spiderbeam poles (few 9m long poles) and a GP5 antenna by SP7GXP. They will try to operate at the same time. Rys, SP5EWY, will be their pilot station for this operation. Members of the Westcumb ARC in Amherst, NS, will activate the special event callsign VC1J on October 24th. Activity is to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Operations will be from the "Joggins Fossil Cliffs" which became a UNESCO site last year. Look for them on many different modes. A special event QSL card will be available. VE2, CANADA (Zone 2)
Operator Yuri, VE3DZ, will once again be active as VE2IM from Sept-Iles, QC (Zone 2), during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 30-31st) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry. QSL via VE3DZ, direct or by the Bureau.

VP5, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS
Peppe, I8UZA, informs OPDX that he will be active as VP5/I8UZA from Turks and Caicos Islands (NA-002, WLOTA 1476) almost all of October and November. Activity will be on all bands (except 30/17/12m) using mostly SSB and possibly RTTY. He will also be active as VP5I during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 30-31st) as a Single-Op/ Single-Band (15m) entry. He will be using a K3 radio with an AL 1500 amp into the following antennas: 3 element 153BA yagi (20m ASL), 2L vertical right on the beach and maybe 2L Quad. VP8/O, SOUTH ORKNEY ISLANDS (Update)
Members of the "Micro-lite Penguins DXpedition Team" are expected to be active from here next year between January 27th and February 8th, 2011. VY0, CANADA
Steve, N3SL, informs OPDX that "The Bret Favre of ham radio is back! (I knew he wasn't serious....)." Jay "J", VY1JA, has obtained permission (from the Canadian Forces CFS Alert) to set up a station at his work assignment in the Nunavut territory and will be active as VY0JA between October 6th and November 9th. He will be taking a FT-990 and wire antennas, and activity will be barefoot on CW (preferred) and perhaps some RTTY and SSB. "J" has updated his (QRZ.com) page to indicate the new QTH, which is the northernmost permanently inhabited site on Earth. Also, look for him to be in the California QSO Party (October 2-3th) as VY1JA to test the equipment before he leaves for Nunavut. He says that once this VY0 operation is over, he'll be "back into retirement" vis-a-vis ham radio. "(Go Bret!)" QSL both callsign via N3SL (JA ONLY to JA3JM).

Bruce, XW1B, from Vientiane, will be active during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 30-31st) as a Single-Op/Lower-Power entry. QSL via E21EIC, direct or by the Bureau.

ZF, CAYMAN ISLANDS (NA-016)
Robert, K5PI, will possibly be active as ZF2PI from the Little Cayman Island as early as November 18th, but more likely from Grand Cayman Island (WLOTA LH-1042) between November 23-26th. His activity will also include the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 27-28th) as an operator with the ZF1A contest team. Robert mentions, "ZF now has 60m privileges, effective March of this year. I am happy to operate 60m if anyone needs ZF." QSL ZF2PI via LoTW or K5PI. QSL ZF1A via LoTW, and by the Bureau or direct to K6AM.
